The cause

THE OUTDOOR FOUNDATION is an American organization focused on inspiring and growing future generations of outdoor enthusiasts and stewards.

Kids today spend 50 per cent less time outside than their parents did, and an average of eight hours a day in front of screens. The Outdoor Foundation is working to reverse this trend by engaging young leaders, investing in local grassroot communities and informing policy makers nationwide.

Last year, their Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge involved 57 schools across 32 U.S. states that went ‘head-to-head’ during a six-week competition to determine which school could get the most people outside and active. As a result, nearly 20,000 college students cumulatively spent 5.7 million hours in the outdoors and logged in close to 100,000 activities including hiking, climbing, kayaking, rafting, and more.

This ongoing initiative, as well as many others, is helping The Outdoor Foundation build a Millenial-led movement with the potential to reclaim the outdoors for future generations.
