Think about the last time you set foot in the wilderness, walked along a river stream or paddled out to the middle of a lake. Though nothing might ground us as much as moments like these, it seems we spend less and less time in the wild outdoors.

 At abitibi & co., nature is what gets us going, makes our hearts pump, and makes the hair on our arms stand up. We live for the moments that take us somewhere—physically, emotionally, and spiritually, new or unexpected. When destinations are reached and expeditions come to their end, we believe in finding a way to keep moving onward.

 We’re a Canadian canoe & kayak company. We design and handcraft boats that are meant to be passed down to future generations, so they are made to be used, and to be repaired. With this, our goals are to get more people outdoors, to bring more people together, and to lessen the impact we make on our global habitat.

 Spending more time outdoors allows us to see, hear, and feel how the wilderness is changing, and gives us a front row seat to the fragility of our ecosystem. This is a relationship: the more we get to know our natural surroundings, the less willing we’ll be to let them slip away.

 And so BESIDE was born: To serve as a stage showcasing the innovative curiosity, the responsible resourcefulness, and the adventurous triumphs of a new community of outdoor enthusiasts who are redefining the scope of this relationship. This is a move ment defined neither by sport nor celebrity—it’s inclusive of a community of inspiring people who have chosen, vehemently, to live, think, and play beyond the bend.

 Together, let’s make sure there’s always another river to fish, another stream to follow, and another peak to summit.
